In my experience, the two largest sources of project failure are bad requirements and bad estimates - not bad coding. If you get your estimate wrong, there may be no way to recover - your project failed before you wrote the first line of code - you just don't know it yet. So, if software estimates are so crucial, isn't it about time we learned how to do them?
